Yellowstone Then and Now-Day 5

Date: July 22, 1967
Place: Jackson Hole Wyoming
Weather: Very Hot-Hot-HOT!!!!

We left early in the morning and started across the bottom part of Idaho toward home. We saw mile after mile of dry, worthless country. The morning seemed two says long! We ate lunch at Twin Falls, which was a relief from the monotonous countryside we had been in. We drove, and baked ... along the road we saw a sign for a place called "The Oasis"... we were longing for one.. so we stopped. They served us cold watermelon... it reallly hit the spot! From there we went to Boise Idaho, and from there to Ontario Oregon where we spent the night.

August 23, 2006
Place: Jackson Hole, Wyo.
Weather: Pleasant, a little cloudy. Some wind, some rain. Everything clearing off in the evening.

The family awoke at their leisure this day and spent the morning exploring the town of Jackson Hole. Ruby took off on her own and had some fun spending money buying western-town type souvenirs.

The family met for lunch at a steak house. The sign on the wall of it read "Of course we serve vegetarians. Cattle never eat meat."

It was determined that the afternoon would be spent in Grand Teton National Park. The family had decided to take a float trip down The Snake River as the evening hours approached, to see what wildlife they could see. Bramblerose was determined to see a moose.

Spending time in the park was a new experience for Ruby, and she quite enjoyed it. They hiked back to a boat landing that ferried people across the lake to a trailhead. Time constraints did not allow them to do this. They explored the bank and took in the beauty that was there.

They took in another spot on the lake further down as well. The weather looked threatening, and the wind came up, but it only seemed to enhance the majesty of the location. A little fawn appeared to them and Mereyann took some pictures.

After finding a comfortable and dry spot to eat their dinner, they prepared for their float trip. The boat was full, but their "group of 7" took up the most space.

The weather cleared up just in time for the float trip. What a memorable trip it was. They saw elk, many busy beavers, a baby bald eagle not far into the journey. Their guide was cute and quite engaging. He taught them about the Tetons being named by French fur traders, and what the name meant.

Bramblerose was enjoying her trip, but really, really wanted to see a moose. The guide was counting beaver sitings. He had beaten his personal record and was rejoicing in the moment when Brablerose's eyes caught something... "What's that?" she said, pointing to bank on the right side of the river.... then a grin the size of the Grand Canyon cracked across her face; and she shouted "IT'S A MOOSE!!!" The entire boat refocused from beavers in the river to alongside the river where they saw a mother moose and her baby relaxing.

This was the whipped topping with a cherry on the banana split of their float trip. Everyone was very happy about what they saw as they disembarked the raft and boarded the bus to return to their cars. After enjoying a beautiful sunset over the Tetons, and a cruise through the gift shop, the family then went back to their hotel in Jackson Hole.

It was another late night. They were tired because once again they had played hard.
