The city of Bywater is all abuzz. Preparations are in their final stages for the upcoming Independence Day Celebration. Bywater does it in grand fashion with a 3-day festival along the banks of the lake. As Ruby walked through the park yesterday she observed temporary shop keepers preparing their displays, special signs and boundaries being erected, and logging equipment being unloaded.
Ruby has resolved to honor her independence to the fullest extent this year. She will go to the pancake breakfast, watch the logging show, see the play, eat an elephant ear, and ride a pony (well, maybe not the pony). Mungo’s musical group is competing in the battle of the bands, so she will most definitely be in attendance for that.
Fortunately, the activities are spread over three days time, because it is her turn to cover for holidays at the infirmary. This means she will be working from 11:30 until 8 p.m. on the 4th, but she will be back in Bywater an hour before the Fireworks are scheduled to begin. “This is going to be a gas!” .
