"We have a new employee today” said Dimple Grubb, Ruby’s supervisor. “Ruby, would you be willing to show her the ropes?” Ruby dutifully agreed. Assignments of this nature brought some challenge to Ruby’s work, which she enjoyed, but it also made her uneasy. What if she makes a fool of herself. What if she instructs her to do the wrong thing. “I wonder if this is how it feels to be a parent?” she thought.
Ruby soon found out that the new employee would not need much in the way of instruction. Camelia Broadbelt had worked in the infirmary, in a different department and was already familiar with much of how the work would flow. Ruby was thrilled. Camelia also seemed to have a sense a humor and should fit in nicely with the laid-back nature of the evening shift. That is an affirmative answer to Ruby's prayers.
