Vacation Part IV: Enjoying the "Scenery"

A big silver pickup pulled up in front of Cora’s home at 8:30 a.m. It was Ruby and “Daisy’s” ride to the Car Rental Office. A fine young fellow named Mungo loaded up their gear and they were off. Soon they were on the road in a dark blue Ford Focus. By and by they came to Verdanton It was quite a different spot than the desert they had traveled through; it was green! The first stop was a gift shop with the WORLD’s LARGEST KOKOPELLI. “Daisy” got pictures.

They got lost in the town and got held up by construction. Lots of young men were working in the heat...”Daisy” was driving and the hold up frustrated her. Ruby encouraged her by suggesting she enjoy the “scenery.” “Daisy” immediately felt better.

They listened to the radio. An advertisement came on for “Insane Todo's Steak-House and Saloon” in Loamsdown. It sounded like a fun filled place with good food and a atmosphere. “I am hungry for a good steak” Ruby finally blurted out. Ruby and “Daisy” agreed they would have supper that evening at “Insane Todo's"

They visited “Montezuma’s Castle,” which is actually an ancient cliff dwelling inhabited by the Sinaqua tribe. Ruby loves this kind of thing. The thought of seeing where people lived thousands of years ago gave her a deep feeling of connection. It was very hot, so Ruby and “Daisy” decided to churn up the AC and eat lunch in the car.
