Ruby and “Daisy” continued their travels northward. The next stop was “Montezuma’s Well” The weather was hot-hot-hot... and there was a 1/3 mile hike to observe it. Ruby and “Daisy” were undaunted. There were more ancient cliff dwellings and a deep crater filled with clear water. It reminded Ruby of a miniature Crater Lake. Look! Ruby said as she gazed over the rim. “There is a small creature swimming there, I think it is a turtle.” “Daisy” agreed. They were pleased.

“Daisy” lead the way as the trail meandered to the shady spot that was the outlet for the lake. They lingered at the spot, enjoying the shade. As they headed back, Ruby decided she was too hot and headed back to the car. “Daisy” bravely continued checking out further things. “Daisy” was quite overheated when she returned to the car, but was glad she took advantage of the extra time. She cooled of quickly with a bottle of water and a few minutes in the AC.
The terrain changed again as they headed north. Huge red-rock formations. Ruby was in awe. They came to the town where Myrtle had recommended we find “Locky-Pocky” . It turned out she was speaking of Tlaquepaque it was an atomospheric collection of shops, restaurants and galleries. Ruby and “Daisy” never saw any signs and never made it there. Maybe some day.

They drove through Oak Creek Canyon and soaked their feet in the water at Slide Rock state Park. The weather was cooler now.
