Christmas Fever

Ruby's face was red from embarrassment. "I cannot believe I have let my blog lapse so badly lately!" "I have many photos to post that seem anachronistic, because of their autumn-like nature, and they seem somewhat inappropriate to post during the Christmas Season... maybe I will post them later on, after the fever of the current season has passed."

It has been an enjoyable December so far for Ruby, she had begun celebrating the season on the weekend after Thanksgiving, and although the month of December was only half-way through, she had attended several parties and celebrations.

The constablary had their Christmas Potluck a week ago Wednesday. Ruby brought deviled eggs and they were devoured immediately. Ruby took part in the ornament exchange and she won some sparkly angels for her tree. Angels are her favorite type of ornament.

The following Friday was her annual gathering of girlfriends. This time it was at Daisy Speckletrout's home. Rosie Brandybuck provided a fun little movie with, of all people, Pee Wee Herman! They laughed, exchanged gifts, ate pizza, drank wine. Rosie made her special pear salad. The meal was topped off with a delicious peanut-butter brownie desert prepared by Pepper Toutlehorn. They sat their cameras on timers and all posed in front of the Christmas tree for a picture. The ladies look forward to this gathering every year.

Tuesday of this week the infirmary had their Christmas party for the employees. Hambut Proudfoot played his piano and his wife played the flute, providing lovely Christmas-carol background music. One of Ruby's other co-workers sang. The big boss gave everyone in the infirmary a $25 gift card. The food provided was especially good.

Last night Ruby's home group from her church gathered with one other group and went in the church van around Bywater to see various light displays. Ruby had arranged her work schedule that day to work day shift in order that she might take part. There were many elaborate displays to be seen. The most elaborate were only a block away from the church! After riding and looking for a while, the van stopped at one of the homes, where those on the bus were invited in for hot chocolate, cookies and Christmas Carols.

Afterward Ruby stopped by Mungo and Myrtle's house and visited with Myrtle for a while. She was busily making gingerbread cookies. They went to where Baby Rube was house sitting and watched the finale of The Apprentice together. (Ruby was disappointed in Randal's decision at the end not to hire the other player as well).

Tonight is Ruby's Bunco Group Christmas Party. They are meeting at a restaurant. They plan another ornament exchange (Ruby's hoping to score another angel). Then they will play their usual Bunco game.

On Saturday Baby Rube, Bramble Rose, Myrtle, Pearl Bracegirdle and Ruby will be meeting at Daisy's home and they are going to spend the afternoon working on home-made Christmas Cards.

"I am having a great Christmas" said Ruby as she reflected, and she was.
