A weekend of Christmas Fever Part II

Ruby picked up Bramblerose at 8:15 on Saturday. It is important to get to the quilt block class early because the chairs are taken quickly and it becomes SRO. This class is mostly a show and tell. People bring their finished projects for everyone to see. "This year's blocks are a lot of fun," said Ruby.

After the class Bramblerose and Ruby met up with Marigold Boffin at the Elvis restaurant for breakfast,as is their tradition. Although they missed Daisy, they still had a lot of things to talk about and they giggled through their breakfast.

Ruby had received the call from her boss, Dimple Grubb, on Friday. She was begging for her to work some overtime. No matter how much Ruby resolves not to fall for it, she does every time.

"Buggar!, I fell for it again" she said.

Consequently four hours on Saturday were spent at work. But Ruby had made plans with Myrtle and Mungo, so the time went quickly and soon she was in front of the infirmary meeting with them.

Myrtle had won tickets for a 30-minute horse-drawn carriage ride up Peacock Lane. She had made reservations for the family, so promptly at 7 o'clock, Myrtle, Mungo, Ruby, Bramblerose and Baby Rube were loaded into the carriage, and lead by a chestnut-colored Percheron, they enjoyed the ride past a full block of homes elaborately decorated with lights for the holidays.

"Thank you Myrtle!" Ruby exclaimed. "What a fun adventure!"

By 7:30 the group was finished with their carriage ride and were quite ready for more. They decided to go to The Grotto, to see their "Festival of Lights." They discovered there was lots to see and do there.

First they walked along a trail lighted by luminarias, and stopped at various points to see a lighted display, telling a portion of the Christmas story.

Then they gathered in a spot for an outdoor play, followed by some carol singing by a very talented quartet. They then made their way to a life-sized nativity scene.

"I am totally gobsmacked!" Ruby said, as they entered the lighted village.

There was a huge collection of various nativity scenes from around the world, and in the chapel a choir was singing. It was the perfect climax to the evening.
