The Blind Leading the Blind

The work day was finally over, Ruby waited for Hambut and his guide-dog Podo in the parking garage. It had been a long and difficult day with lots of interruptions, and it seemed as if the doctors dictating had their tongues tied behind their backs. Ruby was looking forward to getting home and going to bed.

Soon Podo guided Hambut up to her car and the journey home began. "My goodness!" exclaimed Ruby, as they exited the parking garage, it is very foggy tonight!" She slowly drove down the driveway out to the street.

It was very difficult to see in the cloud-like atomsphere. She crept along the divided street toward Hambut's cottage trying to see where she was, and watching the road as it appeared, an inch at a time.

"Oh no!" she exclaimed again.. I missed the turn off!" She then began to look for a place to turn around.

"Don't worry," said Hambut, "Just stay straight on this road; we will get there sure as Bob's Your Uncle!" "This goes right through my old neighborhood!"

Ruby wasn't so sure. Hambut had told her once of an episode of tipping his hat and saying good afternoon to a large lady standing on the corner, only to find he had tipped his hat and greeted a mailbox. She decided to take his word for it, however.

Ruby drove very slowly. As landmarks appeared in the mist she would mention them to Hambut.
"There's a cemetery on the right" Ruby said.
"Yes, a very, very old one, said Hambut, keep going straight."
"Smokey's Pizza" Ruby said.
"Oh... excellent Pizza" said Hambut, turn right."

By providing Hambut with landmarks and street sign names, and listening to his instructions, Ruby soon dropped him off in front of his cottage.

"Now that was a lesson in trust!" thought Ruby.
