"Oh! I almost forgot!", Ruby exclaimed to her fellow workers as she finished off her last report at 11 p.m. "We get to leave a half an hour earlier today!"
She quickly began to clean off her desk and put things away. Hambut Proudfoot took his guide dog Podo and headed down the hall to retreive something from the refrigerator, while Ruby gathered things up and reached in her purse for her car keys.
"Hummm..." Ruby said to her co-worker Camelia Broadbelt, I could have sworn I attached my keys to my purse, but they were not there." She then made an exhaustive search of her tote bag, her desk drawers, the floor beneath her desk, and all of her pockets... no keys!
Camelia sensed the panic in Ruby's voice. "I will go down to the room where we had the meeting, they might be in there," she offered supportively.
Ruby headed out to her car, fearing the worst. Camelia joined her and told her the room was locked where the meeting had been held. Soon Hambut and Podo joined them as well. While Ruby searched her tote bag one more time, Camelia used a small flashlight to look inside Ruby's car. The light from the flashlight glinted off of something shiny. Ruby identified it as her keys, stuck between the two front seats!
"Buggar!" Ruby cussed... "Security no longer helps in matters like this. I am going to have to call a locksmith!"
"How much does a locksmith cost?" inquired Hambut.
"I think it is somewhere around an arm and a leg!" Ruby sputtered.
Ruby, Hambut and Podo headed back into the infirmary. Ruby thanked Camelia for her help and bid her good night. After a 45 minute wait, the locksmith came to her rescue.
As she drove from the parking garage, Ruby was relieved but still angry with herself. "I guess I messed up our chance to go home early."
