Decorating Details

At 2 p.m. on Saturday, after a leisurely and restful morning, Ruby and Daisy began the decorating process for the spaghetti feed.

They began with the floor plan. Through a process of trial and error they determined that there would be two groups of five rows. Each of the five rows would have two tables end-to-end.

Next came the tablecloths which were alternated in colors, red, then white then red.. Etc. Next came long garlands of silk roses, red for the white tablecloths, white for the red tablecloths.

While Daisy filled the bottles with colored water, and Clematis Periwinkle, a friend of Daisy, attached Italian Flags to their staffs with tape and glue, Ruby put green, white and red candles on the tables, making sure the colors were contrasting with the tablecloths. Then came the baskets. The silk rose garland was swirled around each item.

Finally the bottles and flags were added to the tables. The final touch was crepe paper garland around the door and the first beam, and various Italian-themed cardboard cutouts were attached to the walls The chairs were then put around the tables.

Ruby and Daisy stood back, surveyed their work, grinned and gave each other a high five.
