In the Dark

“Closed Friday August 13 for remodeling” was written on the sign on the door of the constabulary when Ruby arrived there for her weekly volunteer work. A smile crept across her face, “now I will have time to catch up on my shopping” she thought. By the time she got back to the car the smile had evolved to a full faced, toothy grin.

First stop was the beauty shop where she got a haircut. Then is was to the mall where she found shoes etc. to go with her outfit for next week’s wedding. She had a very nice afternoon shopping and spending.

In the evening she drove to Bella and Berliac’s home for dinner. She packed her bag to spend the night. She had'nt done that in a long time. Bella had made one of Ruby’s favorite foods, her home-made potato salad, which Ruby gobbled up with pleasure. After a nice evening of chatting, playing with their dog, “Ike” , and watching the opening ceremonies for the Olympics on television, they all turned in.

It was decided by those in charge of electricity in Bella and Berliac’s town that the electricity would be turned off at midnight and remain off during the night, so the night was much darker than usual.

In the morning Ruby and Bella headed for the beach. It was time for Quilt Class II there. Ruby took “Daisy’s” blocks and the blocks made by Bramblerose. Neither of them could make it.

Following the class. Ruby and Bella crossed the bridge and went to Costco. They filled out a joint membership and spent some time looking at the bargains. There were many, but often it took a large commitment to use them up. They decided that on their return trip to this place, they would bring a cooler so they bring home a box of baby cream puffs (which they both secretly joined Costco for) and also to purchase the fine-looking meat and other frozen food that was there.

Ruby and Bella had lunch at Pier 11 and watched the river for a while. Then they made their way home. Ruby got home at 3 o’clock on Saturday. She was pooped.
