Vacation Part VII: The View from the Top

Ruby was up early the next day. She busily prepared herself for the days activities. Doing so was disturbing “Daisy” , so Ruby grabbed her book and went down to the continental breakfast served by the hotel. The breakfast did not measure up to ones she had in other hotels, so she had a cup of coffee and enjoyed her book for a while. By and by “Daisy” joined her and they were off to seek the adventures of the day.

As they approached the Arizona Snow Bowl they were blessed by the sighting of a mother deer with her fawn. “Daisy” attempted to get pictures, but the deer were elusive.

They bought their tickets and were soon headed up a steep slope in a chair lift. The sun was shining, but it was not hot. There were no other people around. The only sound was the faint chug of the chair lift moving, birds singing, and a breeze blowing through the Aspen trees. Ruby and “Daisy” wanted to whisper when they talked, so they would not disturb the subtle sounds of nature and the overwhelming quietness. They observed a chipmunk on the ground from their lofty perch. They thanked God for the awesome beauty in nature as they made their gradual trip to the top. There were no words for what they saw when they got there. They walked about and absorbed the view.

John and Mary were on the trial they were walking. “Daisy” helped snap a picture of them there. They exchanged the favor and snapped a picture of Ruby and “Daisy” on the mountain top. It was eventually time to head back down. Ruby and “Daisy” greeted the people headed up in the chairlift from their down-going chairlift seat. Everyone was friendly. One woman asked if they had any Grey Poupon!

After disembarking, Ruby and “Daisy” enjoyed a cup of coffee and watched the mountain for a while. It had been a beautiful experience, and they were reluctant to leave. But there were other adventures waiting, so leave they did.
