"How luscious" thought Ruby has rolled on to her side and looked at the clock. It was 9 a.m. and she had just awoke. She stretched, smiled and slipped out of bed to the kitchen, where she made herself a cup of steaming black coffee. She drank her coffee and gobbled up the last apple fritter. Sleeping-in was a skill she had in her youth, but had lost it through years of waking up at dawn to head for work. She had forgotten what a wonderful gift it was!
Meanwhile, at the Proudfoot's house, Mrs. Proudfoot had decided to make the visit to grandma an over-nightaffair, so the house was very, very quiet when Hambut awoke to the nudge of the wet nose of the big red dog. Wanting just another 40 winks, Hambut
considered rolling over and hiding his head under the quilt, but then thought about the pressure on his own bladder, so sat up, reached for his bathrobe and took the dog outside. Minutes later, on their way back into the house, a feeling of panic overtook Hambut. Had he closed the door, and was it locked? Boxer shorts and a bath robe are insufficient for anywhere but one's own domain.
Fortunately the door was not locked, but the brief moment of uncertainty was
enough to bring Hambut to full consciousness and a state of awareness that he had not experienced in a while.
