Two Families

Ruby has two families, the family she was born into and a family of friends. Over New Years there was the rare mix of them both in one party. "That was an all-out smasher!" Ruby exclaimed.

On New Years Eve they all gathered at Ruby's cottage. Ruby and Daisy, Mungo, Myrtle, Olo, Mereyann, Baby Rube, Bramblerose were the first ones there. Later came Marigold Boffin and Divot Headwind, and Daisy's friend from church Gladiola Goldworthy.

They started off with the food that was provided. There was a large amount and a great variety. All of the hats found heads, and all of the guests started blowing the horns and anticipating the big blast to come at midnight.

The initiating game, called Apples To Apples, was provided by Olo and Mereyann, this was fun for those involved, yet was not break-neck competitive. Everybody liked that one. It supposidly provided insight into peoples personality, which means Ruby is kind and loud.

During a break between games, Ruby played a tune on the piano and Olo and Mereyann danced to the tune.

Next they played a a game called Battle of the Sexes, provided by Daisy. The women proved superior in that game, although it is true that the men were outnumbered. Eventually Gladiola joined the men's team to help them a bit, alas to no avail.

At 10:30 the younger ones moved on to another party, leaving the older adults for the best game of the evening, provided by Myrtle. It was called "telephone pictionary." It was another non-competitive and utterly hillarious game. "My sides are hurting!" Ruby said while still laughing hysterically.

At the stroke of midnight, they went outside and popped poppers, blew their horns and wished the world a Happy New Year! They then played one last game of telephone pictionary, ending the evening at about 1:30 a.m.

Marigold and Divot spent the night at Ruby's cottage. They had plans for the next day as well.
