Ruby picked up Bramblerose on Friday. While they were dining on salads which they had obtained from the salad bar, she said "I was very busy today at the constabulary! The phone was ringing off the hook and several people came in with questions. I quite enjoy my volunteer job." They both expressed gladness at the city council's decision the night before to allow a new hardware store to be built, and they spent the remainder of their meal catching up on each other's doings.
Ruby was uneasy about the weather forecast, so before heading to her cottage, they stopped for groceries. This took some time. Ruby ran into and old co-worker from the Bywater Infirmary, and they stood in the grocery aisle catching up on each other's lives, and conditions at Ruby's old workplace. "This is my baby niece" Ruby said to her, introducing Bramblerose. The co-worker was amazed, having heard mention of her as a little girl.
Bramblerose and Ruby finally arrived at her cottage. They unloaded groceries and spent the rest of the evening sewing and watching TV. Ruby was especially interested in getting caught up on "The Amazing Race" and "Alias".
When the alarm rang the next morning, Ruby had already decided she was not going to attempt a trip to the quilt block class. Although there was no ice in her gated community, the radio spoke of treacherous ice in surrounding areas. "It seems silly to me to risk an accident, in order to do something for fun" she thought, and she let Bramblerose sleep.
After breakfast, Bramblerose and Ruby got out the fabric they had purchased last summer to make tote bags. They inventoried the supplies they had, and determined what else they needed to complete the project. They looked out the window, checked the thermometer, and decided it would be safe to venture down the road a way to obtain the supplies they needed. Finding what they needed took some time, but they enjoyed every minute of the search. Ruby had two fantastic coupons for this store, one for 40% off, the other for 50% off. She used them both.
Upon returning home, they spent the rest of the morning cutting out the pieces for their tote bags. They then set a date to get together to complete them. Ruby knew that she should get Bramblerose home by noon. Baby Rube was home for a visit, and Bramblerose did not want to miss out on that.
Bramblerose loaded her things in Ruby's car and she took her home. Ruby went in and had a cup of coffee and nice visit with Myrtle, Mungo and Baby Rube before returning back to her cottage.
"I quite enjoyed this weekend," she thought to herself.
