Conspiracy of Kindness

It was 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Daisy had just dropped Ruby off in the driveway of her cottage. She was checking her e-mail before going to bed when her computer message machine announced in Daisy's voice. "Get off of the computer, I need to talk to you!" This alarmed her and she quickly complied.

"I forgot that tomorrow is the Conspiracy of Kindness day!" blurted Daisy, "would you like to come along?" She then explained to Ruby exactly what it was and what they would be doing. Ruby agreed to accompany her.

The next morning Ruby found herself sitting at a table at a local coffee shop with Daisy and two of her friends from church. They had pooled their resources and paid-forward $50 worth of coffee drinks. Then as people approached the counter, they took turns approaching them and giving them a card with the name and number of their church that was also worth whatever they wanted in a coffee drink.

"That was a fantastic experience!" said Ruby. "People were very receptive."

Although that was the end of the official "Conspiracy of Kindnesss" it turned out to be the tip of a Conspiracy-of-Kindness iceberg.

The ladies next stop was lunch at the local Thai restaurant where they were to meet officer Diggerspoon and her Japanese friend Machiko. The Thai Restaurant was offering half of the proceeds for the day to Tsunami victims in Thailand. After that the ladies were off buying decorations for a spaghetti feed to be held next week to raise money for an orphanage in Honduras. While at the shopping center they encountered Ruby's third cousin, selling pepperoni sticks for her trip as an exchange student to South America, so they purchased some as prizes for their next Bunko game.

"It's amazing where God takes you when you don't have any plans," thought Ruby.
