PART I: The Greatness of Girlfriends
Ruby had a very short weekend. Today was it. However, I think she packed two days worth into it. She hit the floor running when she got out of bed. She had some last-minute details to tend to for the party she was attending tonight.
Ruby then had to do her volunteer work. It was a busy day there, entering pawn slips, registering bicycles, handling phone calls, and other miscellaneous things.
At 5 o'clock sharp she was out of the constabulary and off to City Hall to meet Daisy and Rosie. It was an annual gathering of girlfriends: Daisy Speckletrout, Rosie Brandybuck, Pepper Toutlehorn and of course Ruby. They had a lovely supper of turkey with all of the trimmings. They drank wine, told stories and giggled the night away. They donned their special headresses that were designed by "Daisy" the previous year, and they exchanged gifts. "Men are very nice, and I do like them," said Ruby, but this kind of fun can only be had with one's girlfriends!"
PART II: The Miracle of the Mittens
"Did you see my mittens in your car by any chance?", Daisy inquired of Ruby on the phone.
Ruby had been working a few hours at the constabulary when "Daisy" called. Her supervisor Constable Diggerspoon had just left. Ruby always likes it when Constable Diggerspoon is there. They both like making greeting cards, and scrapbooking . So as soon as Ruby arrived, she wanted to see the lovely folded book that she somehow thought Ruby had created. Ruby told her that "Daisy" was on her own in that endeavor.
Constable Diggerspoon then related to Ruby the story about how she had lost her mittens, and that a pair had been found at City Hall. She was pretty convinced that they were her's, so she stopped by City Hall to get them. It was at this time that she had the opportunity to see "Daisy's" lovely creation and learn of a class she was going to be teaching. Off hand, Constable Diggerspoon said that the mittens at City Hall were not her's after all.
"You know, Daisy" said Ruby, "I heard of some mittens that were found at City Hall."
"Where on earth did you hear that!" the amazed Daisy replied. Her imagination making her wonder if Ruby had read it in the paper or heard it on the radio.
Ruby then told her whom to ask about them. When Ruby met up with "Daisy" and Rosie later that evening, "Daisy" had her mittens back.
"That wasn't a coincidence, that was a MIRACLE!" Said "Daisy".
"It appears to me that God must want you to have those mittens for some reason." Ruby replied.
