Vacation Part X: Along the Rim

Ruby and Daisy lingered at their first stop, walking along the rim and slowly absorbing the awesome view. The people they met were friendly. A Japanese family exchanged favors with them, snapping pictures of the ladies with the abyss in the background. They met a friendly couple who had a fuzzy faced pup in a back-pack.. The pooch was named after a vacuum cleaner...(Bissell?... Hoover?... Oreck??. Oooh yeah, Kirby!)

The next stop was a picnic lunch at a roadside table in the trees. They then continued taking the winding road and stopping at various viewpoints. They came upon a mother Coyote working the crowd. Ruby parceled out the remainder of the smoked turkey and threw it out the window for the animal. This kept the coyote interested until Daisy found her camera.

The ladies continued their journey along the canyon rim. They stopped at the Anasazi Indian ruin. There were signs there warning the visitor not to disturb the snakes. Ruby silently prayed "Dear God, please don't let me encounter a snake." She knew she would not disturb it... but IT would most certainly disturb her!

The final stop along the canyon rim was called the Grand Canyon Watchtower. This was a functional work of art. Ruby took the stairways to each landing, absorbing the art work inside as well as the awesome views out the stategically placed windows. When she reached the top she plunked a coin into a telescope and looked down over the canyon into the river. "I will never forget this day", she said to herself.
