Ruby zipped out a quick E-mail to her brother, Mungo at work.
"Would you be willing to baptize me this Sunday at church?"
Mungo's response was immediate, but confused...
"You bet!" was his reply. But why the sudden change of opinion?.
"How did I come to this change of opinion so quickly?" Ruby asked herself, and
she thought back.
It was true. If anyone had asked her, even one month ago, why she had not joined the church, she would launch into a speech about not getting wet enough at her first baptism.
She remembers that baptism with great fondness, and has no doubt in her mind that God was there then and has had his hand on her from there to here. "Re-doing it just for the sake of joining the church", she would say, "Would seem like a silly ritual, akin to riding a goat to get into the Brotherhood of Knute!"
The subject was in her mind though, she thought about it, turned over and thought about it again, and again, mulling and stewing. She sought out many theological opinions on the subject... one leaning one way, the other another.
Her mind changed last Wednesday, while doing her daily bible reading. She read from the Living Bible,Matthew 3:13-15.
"Then Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized there by John. John didn't want to do it. "This isn't proper, he said. "I am the one who needs to be baptized by you."
But Jesus said, "Please do it, for I must do all that is right."
"Jesus did it, and this is how he did it" she thought. I want to be like Him!"
So she contacted her pastor and set the plans in motion.
