Friends, Family and Fun

Ruby contacted the constabulary on Thursday. "I have people coming to play Bunco at my house tomorrow night, and I would like to have the afternoon to prepare." she said. "Have fun and don't worry" was the reply. Ruby was thankful for the time to do some light cleaning and make a couple of scary treats for the party. She had already procrastinated to the point that she had to rely on 7-year-old costume which she had stored in her closet.

As the party guests arrived, it was clear that most people were in the same state costume-wise as Ruby although Pepper Toutlehorn was cleverly dressed as a Dr. Ben Dover. Daisy came as a cowgirl, complete with her trusty steed "Buck" Others grabbed their silly hats as they headed out the door and that was about it.

Sister Hazel Ann was the life of the party, playing with anyone who would offer. She was busy all night long. Everyone had a good time. And the time went quickly. The winner of the night chose Mountain Ministries as their charity.

"I have turned my house upside down, and I cannot find my glasses!" spurted Daisy as she got into Ruby's car. She went in her house for one more look, and then gave up. They left for the city to the north without them. Ruby and Daisy were headed for a day's visit with various family members. Their first stop was at the home of Daisy's brother. He and his wife have a baby who is now 8-months old and very, very cute..

They spent a couple of hours talking and playing with the baby and taking many many pictures.

After a little bit of difficulty, Ruby and Daisy finally managed to drive them selves to Baby Rube's Dorm. Olo and Mereyann met them there as well. Olo took them to the Greek restaurant that he took Mereyann to on their first date.

Posted by Picasa"I want a picture of that" exclaimed Ruby. It was the statue that one often sees in brochures about this city.. It is frequently exploited in the name of various causes. This time it was Poopsie's 40th birthday... whoever that is! The name of the sculpture is "Waiting for the Interurban". The Interurban was the name of a trolley that once ran through the area. The dog in the sculpture has a human face, the result of a feud between the sculptor and a fellow Arts Committee member. The sculptor put the face of his adversary on the dog.

Olo then drove the group down to visit his office building. It is a large skyscraper in the heart of the city.
Posted by Picasa Ruby first took a picture of it looking down at the street.

There are currently four Hammermen scattered throughout the world. This one is the world's second largest one. He hammers only at specific times, and never on Labor Day.

Posted by PicasaAll of the Hammermen throughout the world have a large number painted on them somewhere. The group gathered at the Hammerman's feet, right next to his number, and had someone snap their photo.

Ruby and Daisy headed home, very happy. What a weekend it had been.
