"I love my volunteer job" thought Ruby. She had just completed her four-hour weekly stint at the constabulary. It started with someone coming to the counter wanting to speak to an officer, in order to pick up someone wanted on a felony warrant. It was smattered with conversations with people working in the office as they came and went. She read through reports and dispersed them where they should go. The mail-man made his usual stop, he stayed for a while and chatted. People called with various concerns. She took mesages from some, helped some on the spot, and referred others to the disptacher. She emptied waste baskets, washed dishes and made sure everything was tidy. When the time came for her to leave, she felt as if she had made a contribution, although small, to the well being of her community.
"I think that now that I am working from home, I am going to relish this weekly opportunity to be out among the people even more" she thought.
