Ruby dialed the 800 number and was greeted by a recorded list of options. She picked what she felt was the most appropriate, and listened to another group of recorded options. She once again chose the one she felt the most appropriate and waited while the company told her in a recorded message how important her call was to them. After a few minutes a voice with a heavy East Indian accent came on the line.
"Good Morning, this is Sajid, how may I help you?"
"I want to have cable internet set up in my home", she said.
"Do you have any services with us now?" Sajid said.
"No" replied Ruby
"May I have your address?"
"XYZ Blue Heron Circle", replied Ruby
"How you spell herring?" he replied.
"Oh! Not herring... Heron.. H-E-R-O-N" corrected Ruby.
"Okay, what is your zipcode?"
" 9-8-0-0-0.."
"Oh! I must transfer to the Western Section!" Exclaimed Sajid. "Please hold on. Your call is important to us!"
The recorded message she heard next repeated the same thing..."Please hold on, your call is very important to us". Another voice came on the line.
"Thank you for calling our wonderful company, how can I help you?", said lady with a sweet Southern accent.
"I want to have cable internet set up in my home," replied Ruby.
"Do you have any services with us now?" droled the lady.
"No replied Ruby
"May I have your address?"
"XYZ Blue Heron Circle", replied Ruby
"How do you spell herring?" she said.
"Oh! Not herring... Heron.. H-E-R-O-N"
"Okay, what is your zipcode?"

"Oh! I must transfer you to our Northwest Section! Please hold on. Your call is important to us!"
Once again, Ruby heard the recorded message of their thanks for her patience and the importance of her call to them. Finally another voice came on.
"Thank for calling our company," said the young male voice
"I want to have cable internet set up in my home, Ruby said again.
"Do you have any services with us now?" He asked.
"No" replied Ruby
"May I have your address?"
"XYZ Blue Heron Circle", replied Ruby, heaving a sigh and shaking he head
"Hummm... I seem to be spelling herring wrong.."
"H-E-R-O-N" said Ruby, wanting to laugh and cry at the same time.
"Okay, what is your zipcode?
" 9-8-0-0-0-please...please, don't transfer me..."
Finally Ruby's undying patience paid off. They will be installing the internet next Monday. She will need it, because starting in June she will be working from home.
