Ruby is not one to get sucked in by infomercials. She has lived long enough to know that the difference between what is expected and what is delivered is vast and wide. So when Officer Feathersnout offered Ruby the book by the author she had heard on the radio, Ruby read it with some skepticism.
It was full of vile accusations. "They are manipulating our food." "They want you fat, and unhealthy, because that is where the money is." "Your body is full of poison from your water, air and food." "It s not your fault, its theirs." Ruby yawned widely, she had heard it all before.
When she came to the page that said "Lose 20 pounds in Two Weeks" she shook her head. "The author must think I just arrived on earth!" she thought. It suggested you start the day with a big glass of water and a healthy breakfast, take a daily one-hour walk, and avoid additives, preservatives, sugar and artificial sweeteners. One is to snack on grape fruit and apples and drink 8 glasses of distilled water throughout the day. One is to stop eating three hours before bedtime.
Ruby handed the book back to Officer Feathersnout.
"Well, what do you think?" she said.
"I am starting on Monday.", replied Ruby.
