"We just saw Phantom of the Opera and it was awesome!" said the recorded message from Mother Mergatroid on Daisy's cell phone. Ruby and Daisy burst out laughing when they heard it. They themselves had just left the the theater having seen the same movie, and they had the same opinion. Daisy returned the call and the two of them (and later three, with the addition of Marigold Boffin) had a friendly conversation with her while they enjoyed an after-theater snack of chicken wings at Boston's.
Ruby and Daisy had made the decision earlier in the day to drive to the city to the south to see the film. They had been waiting for weeks for it to come to Bywater, and they had given up hope. The ladies were as enchanted by the movie as they had been by the theater production which both of them had seen more than once. It had the same score as the theater production, but there were scenes that provided more insight into the story.
"I keep hearing those spooky organ strains in my mind," said Ruby "five evil sounding minor chords rapidly going up, five evil sounding minor chords rapidly going down and then repeating.... bum-bum-bum-bum-bum ----- bum bum bum bum bum --- bum bum bum bum bum --- bum bum bum bum bum"
"You really must read the book that it is based on." said Daisy to Ruby. Ruby agreed that she must.
