Ukrainian visitors

Ruby thoroughly enjoyed the concert from her seat toward the front. There was something for everyone, classical, folk, swing, spirituals. The concert lasted for over 2 hours and the time absolutely flew. After the concert it was time to meet her guests. She had number 29. She was one of the first to gather at the foot of the stage. Ruby patiently waited and followed instructions... she watched as people left... and more people left... and finally she was the only person standing, her number "29" still held up so that she would be recognized. A Ukrainian lady with a clipboard saw Ruby standing there. She sincerely apologized and Ruby was taken to her guests. They were busy packing up CDs to go on to the bus for the next day. They apologized for the delay. Ruby didn't mind, in fact she was amazed at how hard they had to work that day, she waited patiently until they were ready to go.

Their names were Helen and Valentina. Helen in her late 30s, Valentina 50. They sang in the chorus. Helen is also a conductor. Valentina, conducts the Children's Chours back in The Ukraine. Helen spoke English well. Valentina also spoke some English.

The ladies were very outgoing and easy to be with. After a brief visit, it was time for bed. They had breakfast together at 10 the next morning. The ladies were very tired, they had spent 8 hours on the bus coming across the state the day before, and then put on a 2 hour concert after that. They requested a chance to nap before leaving, and Ruby encouraged them to do so.

Soon it was time to load up and go back to the bus. "I really enjoyed having them come", thought Ruby. It was an act of bravery for her to volunteer to do it,and just like her Japanese vistiors, she found it very rewarding.
