The cars followed each other long another narrow two-lane curvy highway, Everyone but the driver in both cars fell asleep as they traveled. Finally the cars stopped. They were at Astoria column.

Ruby and "Daisy" rushed into the gift shop and bought a handful of balsa wood glider planes, and divided them up among the girls. She then sent them up into the tower to send them sailing. The girls climbed and climbed around and around up, up up until they reached the top to see the amazing view.

The girls then took aim with their gliders and one by one shot them off the top of the tower. Each flight caught a draft and each plane made a long, easy spiral across the sky until it disappeared into the trees.

When the girls climbed down from the tower, it was time for lunch. Everyone helped unload the coolers and boxes from the cars, and they found a table with a panoramic view. There they spent some time eating sandwiches, fruit (especially blueberries), chips and cookies.

"Astoria Column is one of my favorite places to be", said Ruby.
